Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) Brief Job Profile
(i) Branch Postmaster (BPM):
- Oversees daily postal operations at Branch Post Offices and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB).
- Handles marketing, promotions, and customer services.
- Responsible for smooth functioning of the Branch Post Office, including mail conveyance and delivery.
- May be assisted by Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) in larger offices.
- Can be assigned additional duties by superiors.
(ii) Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM):
- Sells stamps, delivers mail, and handles transactions at doorstep.
- Assists BPM in postal operations and follows department guidelines.
- Engages in marketing, promotions, and customer services.
- May be required to perform combined duties with BPM.
- Can be assigned other tasks by superiors.
(iii) Dak Sevak:
- Works in departmental offices like Sub Post Offices and Head Post Offices.
- Sells stamps, delivers mail, handles transactions, and assists Postmasters/Sub Postmasters.
- May work in sorting offices of Railway Mail Service (RMS).
- Manages receipt and dispatch of mail bags in Mail offices.
- Supports Post Masters/Sub Postmasters in smooth functioning of Post Offices.
- Performs marketing, business procurement, and other assigned tasks.
